Several people in previous threads had asked for tips in improving security and privacy protections. Electronic Frontier Foundation has a nice writeup, simple (not simplistic) and concise and with references, about search privacy.
If you want to use tor with the Firefox browser, you may want to get and use the "SwitchProxy Tool" extension. This makes it fast and easy to select or de-select the tor servers (and privoxy proxy) at any moment's notice. (No pain, _big_ gain.)
