Description: “False positives” from network and security systems account for many wasted man-hours and obscure the visibility of the organisation’s true information security status. Although many systems can generate false positives, these are most often associated with intrusion detection or prevention systems (IDS, IPS), whether network-based (NIDS, NIPS) or host-based (HIDS, HIPS). However, firewalls, routers, antivirus, and other security tools all can generate false positives too. Reducing the number of false positives, whether generated by IDS/IPS, firewalls or other security products, is certainly possible.
